Loft Boarding

Raised loft boarding that protects insulation while creating storage space.

About This Service

Standard loft boarding laid directly onto joists crushes your insulation — destroying up to 50% of its performance. Our raised loft boarding system uses LoftLegs or similar engineered spacers to lift the boards above the insulation, giving you a strong, usable storage platform without sacrificing thermal efficiency. The result: warm bedrooms below, useable storage above, and no compromise.

Key Benefits

Protects Your Insulation

Boards raised above the 270mm insulation depth — full thermal performance retained.

Strong Storage Platform

Each board supports 300kg+ — safe for suitcases, boxes, Christmas decorations, gym kit.

Compliant Installation

Meets Building Regs Part L. Won't void your insulation warranty.

Tongue & Groove Boards

High-density chipboard with T&G edges — solid, no flex, no creaking.

Cable & Pipe Friendly

We work around existing wiring and pipework — nothing gets damaged or buried.

Custom Layouts

From a small storage island near the hatch to fully boarded lofts — priced by m².

Our Installation Process

After a free survey to measure the loft, check joist condition and identify obstacles (cables, water tanks, downlighters), we cut and install LoftLegs at the correct spacing for your joist layout. T&G boards are then laid, glued and screwed across the legs, with cut-outs around any services. Loft ladders and hatches can be supplied and fitted as an add-on. We leave the loft swept clean and ready for you to use.

FAQs

Loft Boarding — FAQs

Does loft boarding squash the insulation?

Standard boards laid directly on the joists do crush insulation and ruin its performance. Our raised boarding system uses LoftLegs to lift the boards above the 270mm insulation depth, so thermal performance is fully retained.

How much weight can boarded lofts hold?

Our tongue-and-groove boards support 300kg+ each — safe for suitcases, boxes, seasonal decorations and general household storage.

Will loft boarding void my insulation warranty?

No. Because our raised system keeps the insulation uncompressed and at the correct depth, your insulation warranty and Building Regs compliance are preserved.

Can you fit a loft ladder and hatch too?

Yes. Loft ladders, hatches and lighting can be supplied and fitted as add-ons alongside boarding — just mention it when you request a quote.
